Where to find SS2?After being around these forums for a little while I have been really interested in learning of Irrational Games Roots and SS2 really seems to be the heart and soul of what they have done. My question... where could I find the game to play it? I noticed that freedom force is on steam so I assumed that SS2 would be as well but it is not. Is the only option to go on ebay and try and find someone selling a copy? My intention was to do that but with the cult following all the copies are over $50 |

I agree with you! I just popped in to this forum to write a thread about finding the game but you beat me to it! Is there any possibility of a port? |

I'd love to see this game follow in the footstops of Perfect Dark and get a XBLA and/or PSN update. That would be awesome. Come on Irrational, make it happen! |

The problem is that it is not really Irrational Games Fault EA owns the series at the moment im pretty sure. I was hoping to see it on steam or d2d or something like that. |

Sadly the game is long out of print and copies aren't cheap anymore. I'd look the typical places like eBay and other online auction sites. You can also vote on www.gog.com but System Shock 2 is already #1. |

I'm still holding out hope that GoG will be the first place we see it. DRM free is a plus obviously, but giving fans their number 1 voted game would be nice. We could move on to some other obsessions. It's cool to realize how many people know about and support GoG.com. |

The guys over there basically take older games and get them up and running for modern PCs. Sometimes this isn't a game that's quite as old (They have stuff over there like King's Quest, but they also have newer titles like Psychonauts). Some might compare the service to Steam--but the games are all 10 bucks or less and they are all DRM free. They don't care how you use your games--just enjoy them. In addition, they often come packaged with extras like sound tracks, high resolution wall papers, art work, etc. I think the major draw is the hassle free way games work directly off the site (they even hustle down official patches that are hard to find and trust) coupled with the DRM free setup. As they'll tell you, you actually own what you buy from them. Most services--like Steam--are really just charging you for the right to license their stuff. At any rate, I'm a huge fan. |

Interesting, I am surprised they would put that much work into getting these older games to work and sell them off at such a low price. The lack of DRM is also very surprising. Wouldn't they have problems with copyrights/etc with doing this? Considering they did not originally make these games why are they able to resell them after they change code? How are they even able to get the source to change for that matter. |

They work with the rights holders from day one. This isn't a pirating situation. It's a situation where companies provide access to back logs, source code, patch info etc and the GoG team gets things going. So far it seems to be a pretty sustainable system. They're not doing R&D, writing, engine building etc. They are--no disrespect meant by simplifying their work--a glorified professional mod group. They then sell the titles digitally for 6-10 bucks. They don't have to print a single manual, they don't have to burn a single disc to send to customers, there's no marketing other than word of mouth from what I can tell. It seems to be an operation with far less overhead than most, so as long as they can pay their employees and satisfy hard core bitchy gamers--I'd say they're onto something. |

I just want to get the game in a legal way that will work on Windows 7... Thats all, it is looking like GOG will be the only hope I have of this happening. Time to sign up and vote I guess. |

Beware of any website selling System Shock 2 via download, as they are probably illegal. |

Collin, thanks again for the alert. I'll be sure to investigate further before suggesting a site in the future. |
