I fell out of anime around the time Gundam Wing made landfall in the US on Cartoon Network. But, recently I've started to dabble again by rediscovering Neon Genesis Evangelion in the new feature film tetralogy releases the original creative team have been producing. I got my hands on the first one (subbed, since dubbing always bothers me) and I'm waiting for the second installment to get subbed. The third and fourth haven't been released yet. It's really quite good and it made me re-watch the original TV series.

I've fallen a bit behind, but the new FMA (brotherhood) is a lot better than the first series they animated.
Otherwise, the only other anime I really watch is gundam. Gotta love giant robots.

I completed Deathnote a while back and loved it. I used to watch Bleach actively but it got weird and fillery but I still read the manga online. I just want to hear more about Rukia, she's one of my favorite characters ever.

I have fallen out of the Anime scene, lately I have been trolling through my Netflix and watching what I can, my two favorite Anime characters are Hellsing and Vampire Hunter D, I used ot watch Dragon Ball Z on Cartoon Network, but since they have removed Toonami I have not seen any of them

It definitely goes way, way off the rails toward the end, but is still entertaining. It's pretty clear that the creator, Anno Hideaki, was going through some serious deep depression and the studio's budget was burning up in the atmosphere.

Neon genesis Evangelion ( Evangelion 1.0 ova's, you must see them, they are perfect)
Casshern Sins
Baccano! (I recommend it to all of you, especially fans of the 1930's and/or alchemy)
Darker than Black
Gurren Lagaan
Mushi-shi
FLCL
+ Many many more.

Hah same here it was a daily ritual. After all those years I can still remember the theme song.

These are the series I liked in the days I watched anime:
- Neon Genesis Evangelion (gets really weird near the end, lots of Japanese subtext)
- Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (has some boring political talking head stuff now and then)
- Tenchi Muyo (all around awesome, not too heavy on Japanese subtext)
- Vision of Escalfowne (pretty good over-all fantasy, not too much subtext)
- All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku-Nuku (pretty fun and silly, not at all pervy like the name and covers may suggest)
For the most-part, they're all pretty straight forward and relatively easy to follow.

What would you say is the best series of the ones you mentioned? Anything similar to FLCL? Any "dark horse" Anime that's worth checking out?

I've never seen FLCL, but based on what I've read about it (since seeing your post), I think Tenchi Muyo! might be similar enough. I'd probably recommend that one to start with anyway. After that, try out 'Escaflowne' and 'Evangelion'.
I'd also recommend Ghost in the Shell, Akira, and Cowboy Beebop. Boku No Marie is a sleeper hit (about a dirty nerd who makes a robot dream girl, but hilarity ensues), and Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade is something completely different, but awesome. You can't go wrong with most things by Miyazaki, but I'm definitely partial to My Neighbor Totoro.
I also used to watch You're Under Arrest, Bubblegum Crisis, and Martian Successor Nadiesco.
Such memories of buying bootleg VHS tapes from Comic Book Guy. This stuff used to be pretty hard to come by!

I'm a Narutard. But it's a good time to be one, the last season was great, coupled with an excellent intro. Too bad it's filler time again soon, but it's necessary.
Bleach just got boring to be honest. :/
Don't watch other anime series currently, as I don't have that kind of time right now.
I watched three movies: Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Chihiro. I loved the latter, despite not understanding some of it (it was in German). The other two were OK as well.

I've seen Chobits. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it it starts kind of slap stick like most animes and progresses into some more serious vibs while keeping comical stuff slipped in there. It's also highly quotable "underpants thank you please"
If your looking for something hilariously enjoyable Great teacher Onizuka is worth checking out. If anything for the first 10 episodes.
Also if anyone is looking for serious anime done by the cowboy bebop team Wolf's Rain was very good (warning it is HIGHLY depressing) but it's very good and doesn't get much love.
p.s. - yay totoro!
