I thought the 3D and special effects were amazing - and is basically the best reason to see this movie.

The story, characters, and plot - even though a few of its own spins, it felt very familiar. Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas, anyone?

I liked District 9 better. At least it HAD a story.

I Really Thought Avatar Was Overrated (Just My Opinion )
To Me It Was More About The New CG Technology ,Then Story Or Developing Arc,
Also This Does Not Bode Well For Indie Flicks Or Low Budget Releases,That Don't Have Big Name Studio's Backing Them.

Really cool to see the latest CG technology in that movie. I knew exactly what to expect with the story, so I didn't criticize it all that much. I think going really deep about this movie's story is about as useless as pointing out how Transformers could never happen in real life. Just my opinion, not bashing anyone here. I just felt like I knew I was paying for an awesome visual treat, so walking out of the theater after the movie, I felt quite satisfied.

haven't seen it neither. All I have to say Giantbomb's Ryan Davis already said.

I admire Cameron for his bold 'visions' and the attempt to save an already dying industry introducing the 3D like George Lucas tried before (Lucas at least can pride himself driving THX into theaters and pushing digital screening across movie theaters, when the 2nd Star Wars trilogy hit the screens).

To my understanding the story is as generic as the Youtube spoofs suggest and reviews tell. I cannot understand how people (including a close friend of mine) think, this is the 'greatest movie of all time' (aside the money it made). Again, I cannot judge, because I have not seen it.

I am happy for those people. I still could not care less about this movie. Will watch it one day.

The technology is amazing. The movie is not.

One can only wonder what a maestro like Kubrick would manage to capture with these new 3D cameras.

The detail in the CGI was impressive, but the plot was about as cookie-cutter as it gets, the characters were bland and archetypal at best, and the praise it's getting is making me hate it.

Overall, good not great. District 9 was leagues better.
