Activision fires heads of Infinity Ward

Not sure how many of you have heard about this, but on Monday, Activision fired Jason West and Vince Zampella, the lead brains behind the Call of Duty series, and Modern Warfare. The reason: they allegedly committed "breaches of contract" and "violations of Activison policies." (Note: they still haven't specifically said what they did to violate the polices, and breach the contract)

However, the duo has filed a lawsuit for $36 million dollars in damages, and for rights that Activision had originally promised them. Here's the 16-page complaint filed by Zampella and West: http://kotaku.com/5485703/ousted-infinity-ward-founders-lawsuit-against-activision-the-court-documents/gallery/

So guys, gals, what are your opinions?

I've always hated Activision, so none of this surprises me. I think I'm growing to hate all publishers in general.

I think West and Zampella have a definite case. it'll probably be handled out of court though eventually

West and Zampella have acted like assholes. If anything, IW *deserves* to be decapitated in this fashion. I can't think of another studio in recent times with a more douchy behavior. Activision, evil as they might be, are in their full rights to do what they are doing.

Here's hoping this scandal ends up destroying IW and severely harms Activision's revenue. I hate them (both) so much.

The plot thickens. Activision have accused West and Zampella of talking to EA.

"Documents regarding West and Zampella's communications with Activision's competitors, including but not limited to Electronic Arts"

Seems flimsy to me..

Haha have you guys read the court documents of the Zampella/West countersuit? I lol'd.

"this lawsuit is solely and regrettably the result of the astonishing arrogance and unbrideled greed of defendant Activision. Plaintiffs Jason West and Vince Zampella are among the most talented and successful videogame developers in the world."

It's hard to even laugh at this, even though it's SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN to be hilarious.

My personal opinion, they need to start showing proof these two did this.

Activision put the whole IW studio through hell, when in there and scared other employees, and still isn't providing evidence. Activision is definitely in the wrong for how they've handled this, even if West and Zampella did what they're accused of.

I haven't heard anything bad about 2K Games. They seem really awesome.

Activision doesn't deserve to even be a publisher, hopefully those guys will get another company going.

I think it's ridiculous. In the counter-suit from West/Zampella, they say that Activision interrogated them for six hours and refused to allow them to console their own employees who were treated the same way. This is video game development people - not an episode of 24. Activision should be severely punished for that kind of treatment and I don't just mean losing millions of dollars.

Ha....Their lawsuit is garbage basically. Activision, although they are jerks, fired them for a reason. It's there fault for breaking their contracts.

Actually, one (And right now, the only known) of the so called terms of insubordination they have committed was not handing over their personal computers, and phones for reviewing. I mean, would you hand over your phone, and personal computer to someone you don't know, and who is accusing you of something?

You can't fire someone for not handing over their personal stuff. That's just wrong. It's against their rights to privacy.

I am just thankful for Bad Company 2, because it is making me forget about the COD franchise. And really if the two heads of the studio, really the creative minds behind the franchise are gone ... I worry about future COD games.

Well, they have other think a-like minds over there at IW, it's just they aren't in charge. You can't tell your boss I'm doing it this way, or you will get fired.

True ... It will be interesting to see how this effects the franchise. I am just thankful that I have been so smitten by BC2, that if COD goes downhill, I have other very competent military shooters. And really in my opinion, I would say BC2 is a better game than MW2.
